SONshine kids brings together Orthodox Christian families in the Bay Area for fellowship, activities, and to build pan-Orthodox community for families and children.
SONshine kids has three main types of activities:
Various kid-oriented fellowship events such as playdates at parks, retreats, monastery trips, etc. throughout the year. This page will be updated with announced events.
Service events, such as donation drives.
A summer day camp held at St. Christina. The last camp in 2025 was scheduled for Monday, July 28th through Friday, August 1st, meeting from 9a-12 noon each day. Activities included things like: scripture based lessons, arts and crafts, singing (both church and silly songs), and fun outdoor group games! Parents are always welcome to stay for the duration of day camp and enjoy fellowship with other families, too.

Pumpkin Patch Outing: Friday, October 10th - 5 PM
G&M Farms Pumpkin Patch: 487 East Airway Blvd, Livermore CA 94551
Come and enjoy the pumpkin patch, corn pit, corn maze, jumping pillow, and much more for the kids to explore. Please let Irene know if you’re able to make it so they can know who to expect!
Pumpkin Decorating: Saturday, October 25th

Meet at 2:30p. We’ll have pumpkin painting for the little kids and pumpkin carving for the older ones. This will be followed by a fun movie.
Dave & Buster’s Funday Fundraiser: Sunday November 9th - 1:30 PM

Join us at Dave and Busters with the community of St. John’s for fun and to help fundraise to support St. John Orthodox Church in Orinda. Contact Irene to coordinate meeting.
Park Playdate: Sunday, November 16th - 4 PM
Magical Bridge Playground: 3700 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306
Join us at this exceptional park in the south bay for an afternoon of fun.
Thanksgiving Food Pantry Support: Saturday November 22nd - 8 - 10 AM
Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church’s Church Hall: 20104 Center Street Castro Valley, 94546
Let’s come together to serve the community by helping bag and hand out food for those in need. This is a great way to give the children an opportunity to participate in service and charity during this important time. There is no age restriction and my girls loved helping set-up and give out food. If you can’t make it this week, they host the food pantry the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. Christmas Celebration: Sunday December 7th

Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Castro Valley is hosting their annual Greek Festival.
*We will be there on Saturday afternoon around 4 if you’re free and want to join us-- it’s always delicious, beautiful, and festive.
Weekly Food Bank: Every Saturday - 10 - 12:45
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church’s Christopher Center (opposite side of the parking lot from the church): 999 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco, CA 94132
Food bank volunteers meet every Saturday, rain or shine, outside of the Christopher Center. Volunteers unload food from the truck and pre-bag groceries to distribute to approximately 200 families who are signed up with the San Francisco Marin Food Bank. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Learn more about it here: https://www.holytrinitysf.org/foodbank. I am hoping to add this to the events for the late winter or spring.
